EU RAPID DEPLOYMENT CAPABILITY
It is time to equip our Union with all the capacities and structures necessary to act effectively to protect our citizens, our principles, our values, and our interests in the world. This report fully supports its creation and implementation and presents proposals on how some of its main elements should be implemented.
EU RAPID DEPLOYMENT CAPABILITY

DEFENDING MULTILATERALISM
This is a debate that the European Parliament is tackling with its report on the EU and the defence of multilateralism, on which Javi López has been a rapporteur. Establishing the EU as a real and influential geopolitical actor is critical to more effectively upholding a global order based on rules and norms.
DEFENDING MULTILATERALISM

AMBIENT AIR QUALITY
A large number of Member States consistently fail to comply with existing air quality standards, and have not taken sufficient measures to improve air quality. In this regard, the Report aims to place the fight against air pollution at the centre of the Recovery Plan, integrating it into all EU legislation.

EU RAPID DEPLOYMENT CAPABILITY
The Rapid Deployment Capability (RDC) will be key to strengthen our security and defence potential. This is a proposal by High Representative Josep Borrell following the frenetic, problematic evacuation from Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, which highlighted the EU’s need to have forces prepared to act quickly in hostile environments.

DEFENDING MULTILATERALISM
Multilateralism, a commitment to managing international relationships through dialogue, and common norms and institutions, is in crisis. While the multilateral system remains the best way to solve complex global challenges in an interdependent world, the limitations of current institutional frameworks must be recognized, such that its revamping and reconstruction must be undertaken in order to gain greater effectiveness, inclusiveness and a focus on results.

AMBIENT AIR QUALITY
Clean air is essential for human health, quality of life and the environment. According to the World Health Organization, air pollution represents the greatest environmental risk to health in Europe, causing some 400,000 premature deaths a year. This is confirmed by the report on the implementation of the Air Quality Directives, of which Javi López was a rapporteur.

THE FIGHT AGAINST INEQUALITIES
Inequality not only erodes social trust and support for institutions, the report says, but it also thwarts innovation and, ultimately, undermines the economy itself. Thus, to address the increase in equality a battery of measures are proposed; for the labour market, to improve the welfare state, and to promote gender equality.

EU - LATIN AMERICA POLITICAL RELATIONS
Relations between the two regions should facilitate the protection of multilateralism and international relations, guided by rules, dialogue and cooperation. Thus, the Report proposes to strengthen relations between the EU and Latin America in order to promote inclusive growth, combat climate change and further gender equality.

THE FIGHT AGAINST INEQUALITIES
Rising inequality is one of Europe’s main ills, fuelling populism, xenophobia and extremism. This is confirmed by the European Parliament’s report “Combating Inequality as a Lever to Boost Job Creation and Growth”, by rapporteur Javi López.

EU - LATIN AMERICA POLITICAL RELATIONS
The new international scenario forces us to relaunch international alliances and creates an opportunity to strengthen ties between Europe and Latin America. This is reflected in the European Parliament Report “EU-Latin America Political Relations”, on which Javi López was the rapporteur.
