UE foreign actions
Europe must be a leading player in the world order, and we will continue to work to ensure that the values of equality, inclusiveness and social justice embodied by the European Parliament prevail.
Stand up for multilateralism and a strong, united and leader Europe in the global order, with special attention to our alliance with Latin America.
Foreign affairs
I am an alternate member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs. On this commission I mainly work on issues related to the development and implementation of the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy; the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), the world order, and multilateral institutions. I have been a rapporteur for the report on the EU and the defence of multilateralism, adopted in July 2022, which advocates for a more effective, inclusive and representative multilateralism in which the EU plays a strengthened role.
Security and defence
I am a member of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defence. On this subcommittee I work mainly on issues related to the improvement and strengthening of our capabilities in the field of Defence, the implementation of the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy, and the reform necessary to achieve true strategic autonomy. I have been a rapporteur on the Rapid Deployment Capability (RDC) report, adopted in April 2023, an innovative instrument to act in an agile and effective way in the face of crises abroad.
Latin America
I am a full member, after five years as President, of the European Parliament Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. The Assembly, which meets twice a year, is an instrument of the bi-regional strategic partnership and a parliamentary bridge between both continents to strengthen their alliance and address common challenges.
I have also been able to participate in various electoral observation missions to the region, particularly as Head of the Electoral Observation Mission for the legislative and presidential elections in Colombia in 2021. I have been the rapporteur for the European Parliament’s consent report and the accompanying resolution on the approval of the Modernised Global Agreement between the European Union and Mexico.
